Peabody Sports Collection

The Noble Science: John Leech in the Hunting Field. Thomas Bodkin. London: W. Collins and Sons, 1948.

The Stuyvesant Peabody Sports Collection was donated in the early 1950's by Anita Peabody, his widow. Mr. Peabody headed several coal firms, but his avocation was sports. The 900 volumes in the collection deal with horseracing, foxhunting, books on gambling, novels on sports, and sporting periodicals. Mostly printed in Great Britain during the nineteenth century, this collection also includes color illustrations by many of the same illustrators represented in the Dickens Collection.
