Vincentian Motor Missions
| In response to the anti-Catholic sentiment gathered in the presidential election campaigns of 1924 and 1928; the Vincentian Motor Missions began in 1935 as a way of spreading information about Catholic beliefs and practices to provide a balance to the bigotry that was rooted in ignorance. Rev. Lester Fallon, C.M., Rev. Joseph McIntyre, C.M., and Rev. Joseph Phoenix, C.M. began the missions that continued through the 1960s. Throughout rural Missouri, Vincentians took the "question box," their lectures, and their knowledge, and introduced information about Catholicism to those whose ignorance of the religion often generated fear, prejudice, and hatred. |
