Council for a Parliament of the World's Religions

The first modern Parliament of the World's Religions was held in Chicago in 1993, to bring together members of many of the religions of the world. The intent of the convenors was to develop a shared voice to address social, economic, and environmental concerns from the standpoint of religious values. Subsequent Parliaments were held in Capetown, South Africe in 1999; and Barcelona, Spain in 2004. The Council for a Parliament of the World's Religions is the governing body that maintains the organizational structure, and provides the managerial framework for the regularly scheduled Parliaments, as well as interreligious programs which take place between the Parliaments.
