Using Computers in the Library

DOES THE LIBRARY HAVE COMPUTERS I CAN USE?

  • Yes; all campus libraries have a lab to provide Internet access to library databases.
  • At the Lincoln Park Campus there is also an adjoining lab in which Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint are available.
  • You will need a DePaul ID card to use these labs.
  • Public access computers in the library (no login required) provide access only to the library catalog and electronic reserves.

are there campus computer labs located in the library?

  • You will need a DePaul ID card and/or a Campus Connection username and password to access these labs.

CAN I USE MY LAPTOP IN THE LIBRARY?

  • As in any other public setting, do not leave your laptop or any other valuables unattended in the library.     [Top]

DOES THE LIBRARY HAVE WIRELESS ACCESS FOR MY LAPTOP?

  • Wireless access is available to DePaul students from libraries at Lincoln Park, Loop, Rolling Meadows, O´Hare and Naperville.
  • Visit the university's wireless Web site for details on which floors the signal covers at each location and configuration instructions: http://wireless.depaul.edu      [Top]

HOW DO I ACCESS LIBRARY RESOURCES FROM HOME?

  • Current DePaul students, faculty and staff can use the library´s full-text article databases, electronic books and other resources from home via the university´s proxy server.
  • When you select a resource from home, you´ll be prompted to log in. Type your Campus Connection user ID and password. This is the same password you use when you register for classes online.
  • If you have a valid Campus Connection password but are denied access, here are some troubleshooting tips:
    • A few of the special characters suggested for Campus Connection passwords, namely the *, #, and @ symbols, have been problematic for the proxy server to authenticate. If you have one or more of these symbols in your recently-changed password, try swapping it out with a period [.] or parentheses [( )], characters which have not been associated with password authentication problems. Another quirk that has been reported is not changing enough of your password. If you have a particularly long password and do not change at least one of the first 8 characters, the proxy server may fail to recognize it as being changed.
